Removal Procedure

- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
- Remove the steering damper from the relay rod. Refer to Steering Damper Replacement .
- Remove the outer tie rod ends. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement - Outer .
- Remove the idler arm ball stud nut. Do not reuse the nut.
- Remove the pitman arm nut. Do not reuse the nut.
- Remove the relay rod from the idler arm ball stud using the J 24319-B . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the relay rod from the pitman arm ball stud using theJ 24319-B . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the relay rod from the vehicle.
- Inspect the threads on the tie rod ends for damage.
- Inspect the ball stud threads for damage.
- Inspect the ball stud seals for excessive damage.
- Clean the threads on the ball studs.
