The EVTM line of the powertrain control module (PCM) is installed to receive a diagnostic signal from the electric VTC motor. Normally, the EVTM line output duty from the electric VTC motor is 100 % (+/-5 %) when the electric VTC relay is OFF. If the EVTM line output duty is other than 100 % (+/-5 %) despite the OFF of the electric VTC relay with the vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
