Steering Column/EPS Control Unit: Removal
NOTE:
- SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations , and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
- Do not release the lock lever until the steering column/EPS control unit is installed. If the lock lever is released before installation, adjust the steering column after installation.
- Steering Column Tilt and Telescopic Position - Set
1. Set the steering column to the center tilt position, and to the center telescopic position. - 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
- Driver's Airbag - Remove
- Steering Wheel - Remove
- Front Door Sill Trim - Remove - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas
- Kick Panel - Remove - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas
- Center Console Side Cover - Remove (Driver's Side)
- Steering Joint - Disconnect
1. Remove the steering joint cover (A). 2. Hold the spline shaft (B) on the column with a piece of wire (C) between the joint yoke (D) of the spline shaft and the joint yoke (E) of the spline tube to prevent the lower spline shaft from pulling out.
3. Remove the steering joint bolt (F).
4. Disconnect the steering joint (G) from the pinion shaft (H).
NOTE:- If the center guide (I) is in place and has not moved, leave it in place.
- If the center guide has come off, discard it.
- Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover - Remove
- Column Cover - Remove
- Combination Switch/Wire Harness - Remove
1. Disconnect the connectors (A).
USA models
Canada and Mexico models
2. Remove the harness clips (B).
3. Remove the combination switch (C) from the steering column shaft.
