Installation Procedure

    Steering Column Telescope Actuator Motor (1) - Install

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  3. CAUTION:

    Fastener Caution .

    Steering Column Tilt Wheel Actuator Motor (1) - Install

    Steering Column Tilt Wheel Actuator Bracket (2) - Install

  7. Steering Column Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

  9. Steering Column Tilt Wheel Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Steering Column Control Module (1) - Install

    Retainer (2) - Install

  12. Connect the electrical connectors. (1)

    Steering Column Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Steering Column (1) - Install

  15. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.

    Steering Column Nut (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Install turn signal switch, windshield wiper and windshield washer switch, and turn signal switch bracket (1) as an assembly.

    Ensure the locking tab (1) on the right side of the turn signal switch bracket is fully seated.

    Ensure the locking tab (1) on the left side of the turn signal switch bracket is fully seated.

    Install the wiring harness retainer (2) on the right side of the turn signal bracket.

  21. Connect the electrical connector. (1)

    Install the wiring harness clip (2) and wiring harness retainer (3) on the left side of the turn signal bracket.

  23. Connect the electrical connector. (1)

    Ensure the steering wheel airbag coil is CENTERED during installation. Steering Wheel Airbag Coil Centering

  25. Steering Wheel Airbag Coil (1) - Install
  26. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (1) - Install

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Connect the electrical connector.

  31. Secure the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) to the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

    Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install

  33. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  34. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications 
  35. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.

    Connect the electrical connector.

  37. Steering Wheel (2) - Install
  38. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  39. Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Connect the electrical connectors.

  41. Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
  42. WARNING:

    After installation of the steering wheel airbag module to the steering wheel, slightly pull the module outward. If there is no give on the airbag module then it is secured correctly. If the airbag module is not fully attached personal injury could result.

  43. Steering Wheel Airbag (2) - Install
  44. Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    Install the left and right steering wheel airbag access hole covers (1).

    Connect the electrical connectors.

  47. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1) - Install

    Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  49. Instrument Panel Fuse Block Access Hole Cover (1) - Install

    Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover (1) - Install

  51. Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
  52. Return the steering column to its original position.
