Pinpoint Test M: Abs (Anti-Lock Brake System) Module Communication Concern With Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
With the ignition ON, the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) sends messages to the ABS module over the FD-CAN. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within a certain time frame, the ABS module sets a DTC. For information on the messages sent to the ABS module by the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control - System Operation and Component Description .
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition ABS U2107:00 Collision Mitigation By Braking: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the collision deceleration message from the CCM is sent too often or the duration of the message is too long. This is mostly likely caused by a network communication concern or an internal failure of the CCM. ABS U2107:68 Collision Mitigation By Braking: Event Information Sets when the ABS module detects the vehicle deceleration is implausibly high when compared to the vehicle deceleration requested by the CCM. This is most likely caused by an abrupt stop of the vehicle due to a collision, an extreme driving situation, a mechanical or electrical failure of the cruise control system or an internal failure of the ABS module. ABS U2108:68 Adaptive Cruise Control: Event Information Sets when the ABS module detects the vehicle deceleration is implausibly high when compared to the vehicle deceleration requested by the CCM. This is most likely caused by an abrupt stop of the vehicle due to a collision, an extreme driving situation, a mechanical or electrical failure of the cruise control system or an internal failure of the ABS module. Possible Causes
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Network communication concern
- Battery/charging system concerns
- CCM
- IPMA
- ABS module
- M1 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) COMMUNICATION NETWORKNOTE: The IPMA is also known as the Advanced Drive Assistance System (ADAS) module.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the Network Test.
Does the IPMA pass the Network Test?
Yes Diagnose all IPMADTC s. REFER to: Rear View Mirrors . If there are no IPMA DTC s, GO to M2 No GO to M2 - M2 RECHECK FOR THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) S
- CLEAR the ABSDTC s.
- Ignition ON.
- Carry out the ABS self-test.
Are any of the DTC s listed in the Fault Trigger Conditions Table retrieved again?
Yes GO to M3 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. - M3 RETRIEVE THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE)NOTE: The IPMA is also known as the Advanced Drive Assistance System (ADAS) module.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the IPMA module self-test.
Are any IPMADTC present?
Yes DIAGNOSE the IPMADTC s. REFER to: Lane Keeping System . No GO to M4 - M4 CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERNNOTE: The IPMA is also known as the Advanced Drive Assistance System (ADAS) module.NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the IPMA, CCM or ABS module. If recent service history is found:
- verify the correct replacement module was installed.
- HVBOM may be used to verify correct part fitment.
- verify the configuration of replacement module was correct.
- re-configure the module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect.
- verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle.
- return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module.
- verify the correct replacement module was installed.
- Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.
Is the observable symptom still present?
Yes GO to M5 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been due to incorrect parts replacement procedures or incorrect module configuration. - Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the IPMA, CCM or ABS module. If recent service history is found:
- M5 CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) IN OTHER MODULES
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool retrieve all DTC s.
Is DTC U0104:xx U0405:xx, or U2107:xx present in one or more modules in addition to the DTC s set in the ABS module?
Yes GO to M6 No GO to M7 - M6 CHECK FOR CORRECT CCM (CRUISE CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Using a good light source, INSPECT all Disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- Corrosion - INSTALL new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- Damaged or bent pins - INSTALL new terminals or pins
- Pushed-out pins - INSTALL new pins as necessary
- Spread terminals - INSTALL new terminals as necessary
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSB s address this concern, INSTALL a new CCM. REFER to: Cruise Control Module (CCM)
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. Refer to Wiring Diagrams - Connector Repair Procedures for schematic and connector information. - Using a good light source, INSPECT all Disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- M7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect ABS Module connector.
- Using a good light source, INSPECT all Disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- Corrosion - INSTALL new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- Damaged or bent pins - INSTALL new terminals or pins
- Pushed-out pins - INSTALL new pins as necessary
- Spread terminals - INSTALL new terminals as necessary
- Connect ABS Module connector. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSB address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS. REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module - Vehicles With: Vacuum Brake Booster . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. Refer to Wiring Diagrams - Connector Repair Procedures for schematic and connector information. - M8 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect CCM C1582.
- Using a good light source, INSPECT all Disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- Corrosion - INSTALL new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- Damaged or bent pins - INSTALL new terminals or pins
- Pushed-out pins - INSTALL new pins as necessary
- Spread terminals - INSTALL new terminals as necessary
- Connect CCM connector. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSB address this concern, INSTALL a new EBB. REFER to: Electric Brake Booster (EBB) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. Refer to Wiring Diagrams - Connector Repair Procedures for schematic and connector information.
