Inspection and Verification

Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to: Diagnostic Methods .

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. Refer to the Visual Inspection Chart.
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to the DTC Chart.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart.
