Using Scan Tool

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Navigator and 2002 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To retrieve continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and run self-test diagnostics, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) following manufacturer's instructions. DLC is located under center of instrument panel.
  2. If self test passes and no DTCs are retrieved, go to diagnostic symptoms table to continue diagnosis. See DIAGNOSTIC SYMPTOMS  table. If DTCs are retrieved, go to diagnostic trouble code identification table to continue diagnosis. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table. If restraints control module cannot be accessed by scan tool, go to TEST AF: NO COMMUNICATION WITH RCM  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  .
