Removal (M5OD-R1 & M5OD-R2)
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- If equipped, turn the air suspension switch OFF.
- With vehicle in Neutral, raise and support the vehicle.
- Drain the transmission fluid.
- Remove and support the rear driveshaft. Remove the bolts. See Fig 1. Remove the rear driveshaft.NOTE: To maintain initial driveshaft balance, index-mark the driveshaft to the rear axle pinion flange so it can be installed in its original position.
- Remove the transfer case, if equipped. See appropriate TRANSFER CASE article.
- Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) bolt. See Fig 2. Remove the VSS.
- Use the High-Lift Jack (A) to support the transmission (B). Secure the transmission with the strap (C). See Fig 3.
- Remove the transmission mount nuts. See Fig 4.
- Remove the heat shield bolts (one each side). See Fig 5.
- Remove the crossmember bolts (three each side). Remove the crossmember. See Fig 6.
- Remove the mount bolts. See Fig 7. Remove the transmission mount.
- Remove the exhaust pipe bracket nuts. See Fig 8. Remove the exhaust pipe bracket.
- Lower the transmission to access extension housing bolts. Use Seal Remover (A) to remove the extension housing seal (B). See Fig 9.
- Remove the extension housing bolts. See Fig 10. Remove the extension housing.
- Remove the speedometer gear retaining ring. See Fig 11. Remove the speedometer drive gear.
