Test C: Alarm System Does Not Operate Correctly
NOTE:
Anti-theft hood switch and anti-theft luggage compartment switch are wired together. See ANTI-THEFT in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and the radio. See Figure. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. Retrieve and record continuous DTCs. If DTC B1522 was retrieved, go to step 4. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Close all doors. On wagon, ensure liftgate and rear window are closed. On all models, if door ajar indicator is illuminated, repair door ajar indicator as necessary. See TEST N: DOOR AJAR INDICATOR DOES NOT OPERATE under SYSTEM TEST in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If door ajar indicator is not illuminated, go to next step.
- Using WDS or NGS tester, trigger GEM PID HOOD_SW. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, go to next step. If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect anti-theft hood switch 2-pin harness connector C127. See Fig 1. Anti-theft hood switch harness connector C127 is located on left front side of engine compartment. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Trigger GEM PID HOOD_SW. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, go to next step. If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, replace anti-theft hood switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect luggage compartment switch 2-pin harness connector C483. See Fig 2. Luggage compartment switch is located at rear of vehicle, in decklid. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, monitor GEM PID HOOD_SW. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, go to next step. If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, replace luggage compartment switch. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201c. See Figure. GEM harness connector C201c is located on left side under dash panel. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, monitor GEM PID HOOD_SW. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, go to step 13. If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, repair short circuit (in Tan/Light Green wire) between hood or luggage compartment switches and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect anti-theft hood switch 2-pin harness connector C127, located on left front side of engine compartment. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and anti-theft hood switch harness connector C127 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit (in Black wire). After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Leave ignition switch in LOCK position. Disconnect luggage compartment switch harness connector C483. Luggage compartment switch is located at rear of vehicle, in decklid. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and luggage compartment switch harness connector C483 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Black wire between luggage compartment switch and ground point located at right rear of luggage compartment. See Figure. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, monitor GEM PID HOOD_SW. Connect a fused jumper wire between anti-theft hood switch harness connector C127 terminals No. 1 (Tan/Light Green wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, go to next step. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, replace anti-theft hood switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Leave ignition switch in RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, monitor GEM PID HOOD_SW. Connect a fused jumper wire between luggage compartment switch harness connector C483 terminals No. 1 (Tan/Light Green wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If PID does not indicate cylinder punched out, go to next step. If PID indicates cylinder punched out, replace luggage compartment switch. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201c. See Figure. GEM harness connector C201c is located on left side under dash panel. See Figure. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and anti-theft hood switch harness connector C127 terminal No. 1 (Tan/Light Green wire). Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C201c terminal No. 17 (Tan/Light Green wire). See Fig 3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Tan/Light Green wire between anti-theft hood switch and GEM. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and luggage compartment switch harness connector C483 terminal No. 1 (Tan/Light Green wire). Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C201c terminal No. 17 (Tan/Light Green wire). See Fig 4. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair interior lights as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Tan/Light Green wire between luggage compartment switch and GEM. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Reconnect all GEM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. If concern is still present, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system for normal operation.
