Test B: Alarm System Does Not Arm

  1. Turn ignition off. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs and perform Remote Anti-Theft Personality Module (RAP) module self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1334 is retrieved, go to step  8 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Operate driver's door lock switch from lock to unlock position. Using key, lock and unlock door. If door locks operate correctly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate correctly, repair door lock system.
  3. Press lock and unlock buttons on keyless entry transmitter. If door locks operate correctly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate correctly, repair or replace remote transmitter.
  4. Open driver's window. Perform arming sequence using remote transmitter. If THEFT indicator does not illuminate, wait 30 seconds after all doors are closed and locked. Reach through window and open door with front inside door handle to trigger armed system. If system arms and triggers, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article for repair of THEFT indicator. If system does not arm and trigger, go to next step.
  5. Using NGS tester, monitor RAP PID DOORRAP. Close all doors. RAP PID DOORRAP should indicate CLOSED. Open any door. The RAP PID DOORRAP should indicate AJAR. If RAP PID changes as specified, go to step  8 . If RAP PID DOORRAP does not change as specified, go to next step.
  6. Open and close any door. If interior courtesy lights operate properly, go to next step. If interior courtesy lights do not operate properly, repair courtesy lights as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405 (located in luggage compartment, behind right trim panel on coupe and sedan, or located behind left rear quarter trim panel on wagon). Disconnect driver's door courtesy light switch connector C324 (located in driver's door jamb). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/White wire between RAP module 26-pin connector C405 terminal No. 11 and driver's door courtesy light switch connector C324. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red/White wire between RAP module and driver's door courtesy light switch. Retest system operation.
  8. Using NGS tester, monitor RAP PID DECKLD while opening and closing luggage compartment. If RAP PID DECKLD does not indicate AJAR when luggage compartment is opened and CLOSED when luggage compartment is closed, go to next step. If RAP PID DECKLD indicates AJAR when luggage compartment is opened and CLOSED when luggage compartment is closed, go to step  12 .
  9. Open and close luggage compartment. If luggage compartment courtesy light illuminates, go to next step. If luggage compartment courtesy light does not illuminate, repair luggage compartment courtesy light as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405 (located in luggage compartment, behind right trim panel on coupe and sedan, or located behind left rear quarter trim panel on wagon). Disconnect luggage compartment switch connector C418. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/White wire between RAP module 26-pin connector C405 terminal No. 21 and luggage compartment switch connector C418. See Figure . Check resistance between ground and RAP module 26-pin connector C405 terminal No. 21. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between ground and RAP module, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors or 10 k/ohms or less between ground and RAP module, repair open or short to ground in Orange/White wire and retest system operation.
  11. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between luggage compartment switch terminals while opening and closing luggage compartment switch. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with luggage compartment switch opened. Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms with luggage compartment switch closed. If resistance is as specified, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If resistance is not as specified, replace luggage compartment switch and retest system operation.
  12. Using NGS tester, select RAP PID IGN_RAP. With ignition off, RAP PID IGN_RAP should indicate OFF. With the ignition switch in RUN position, RAP PID IGN_RAP should indicate RUN. If RAP PID changes as specified, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If RAP PID IGN_RAP only indicates RUN, go to next step. If RAP PID IGN_RAP only indicates OFF, go to step  14 .
  13. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and RAP module 26-pin connector C405 terminal No. 25 (Blue/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair Blue/Black wire between RAP module and central junction box. Retest system operation.
  14. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and RAP module 26-pin connector C405 terminal No. 25 (Blue/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Blue/Black wire between RAP module and central junction box. Retest system operation.
