Test B: Alarm System Does Not Arm/Disarm With Remote Transmitter

  1. Using driver's door switch, lock and unlock doors. If door locks operate correctly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate correctly, repair door locks as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM - SABLE & TAURUS article.
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor transmitter TIC/DATA. Monitor GEM active command PROGRAM TIC selected from 4 memory locations. If 2 TICs stored at TIC 1, TIC 2, TIC 3, and TIC 4 positions, go to next step. If no TICs are stored at TIC 1, TIC 2, TIC 3, and TIC 4 positions, program remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID LAST TIC/DATA RECEIVED. Press and release remote transmitter lock and unlock buttons. If 8 digit code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, go to step  5 . If no 8 digit code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step.
  4. Monitor GEM PID TIC/DATA. Press and release remote transmitter lock and unlock buttons on second transmitter. If 8 digit code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, inspect remote transmitter batteries. If batteries are okay, replace or program remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. Retest system operation. If no 8 digit code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool function test, monitor transmitter TIC/DATA. Compare results from step 2)  . If TIC RECEIVED matches one of the TICs recorded, go to next step. If no TIC RECEIVED matches TICs recorded, program remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. Retest system operation.
  6. Monitor transmitter TIC/DATA. If each button pressed on remote transmitter creates LAST TIC RECEIVED output, go to next step. If each button pressed on remote transmitter does not create LAST TIC RECEIVED output, program remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. Retest system operation.
  7. Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Reconnect all GEM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat GEM self-test.
