Brake System

The significant features of the brake system are as follows:
- E-150, E-250 have rear drum brakes. For additional information, refer to DISC & DRUM .
- E-350, E-450, E-550 is equipped with rear disc brakes. For additional information, refer to DISC & DRUM .
- All E-150 - E-450 vehicles have front disc brakes. The E-550 front wheel brakes utilize a dual piston brake caliper and disc brake system. For additional information, refer to DISC & DRUM .
- The parking brake is foot-operated and, on the E-150, E-250 uses the rear drum brake system. E-350, uses a drum-in-hat brake system. The E-450, E-550 is equipped with a transmission-mounted parking brake. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE & ACTUATION .
- The brake hydraulic system is split front and rear at the brake master cylinder.
- The brake power assist is vacuum-operated on the E-150, E-250 and E-350. The E-450 is equipped with a Hydro-Boost power brake booster powered by the power steering pump. The E-550 chassis is equipped with either the Hydro-Boost or the Hydro-Max type. For additional information, refer to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION .
- All vehicles are equipped with either a rear only (RABS) or a 4-wheel (4WABS) anti-lock brake system. The E-550 anti-lock brake system utilizes a 3 or 4 channel configuration. For additional information, refer to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL .
