Self-Diagnostic System

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located beneath instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications problem. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC), perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for generic electronic module, repair module communications problem. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record DTCs. Erase DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform HEC self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. ⁽¹⁾	Using NGS tester, retrieve and document all continuous DTCs. Perform Hybrid Electronic Cluster self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace instrument cluster.
