July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

DTC B1243: Express Window Down Switch Shorted To Battery

  1. Check GEM PID D_DN_SW  - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID D_DN_SW. If GEM PID D_DN_SW indicates DOWN, go to next step. If GEM PID D_DN_SW does not indicate DOWN, clear DTCs and perform GEM self-test. If DTC B1243 is retrieved, replace GEM and retest system operation.
  2. Check One-Touch Down Relay  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect one-touch down relay (located in instrument panel fuse block). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check GEM PID D_DN_SW. IF GEM PID D_DN_SW does not indicate DOWN, go to next step. IF GEM PID D_DN_SW indicates DOWN, go to step 4).
  3. Check Tan/Red Wire For Short To Battery  - Using a voltmeter, check for voltage at one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 30 (Tan/Red wire). See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, repair short to battery voltage in Tan/Red wire. Retest system operation. If battery voltage is not present, replace one-touch down relay and retest system operation.
NOTE: Driver master window switch contains 2 separate 7-pin connectors. On connector C501, all 7 terminals are used. On connector C514, only 4 terminals are used.
  4. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver door master window switch 7-pin connector C501. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check GEM PID D_DN_SW. IF GEM PID D_DN_SW indicates DOWN, go to next step. If GEM PID D_DN_SW does not indicate DOWN, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  5. Check Yellow Wire For Short To Battery  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect GEM 22-pin connector C234 (located behind instrument panel, on left side of steering column). Using a voltmeter, check for voltage between ground and GEM connector C234 terminal No. 12 (Yellow wire). See Fig 2 . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If battery voltage is present, repair Yellow wire for short to battery voltage. Retest system operation. If battery voltage is not present, replace GEM and retest system operation.
