July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Test D: Speed Control Inoperative

  1. Check For Voltage To Speed Control Servo/Actuator  - Disconnect speed control servo/actuator connector C116 (located on left side of engine compartment). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C116 terminals No. 7 (Purple/Orange wire) and No. 10 (Black wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  2. Check Ignition Circuit  - Turn ignition to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and speed control servo/actuator connector C116 terminal No. 7 (Purple/Orange wire). If battery voltage is present, repair Black wire between speed control servo/actuator and ground. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation. If battery voltage is not present, repair Purple/Orange wire, fuse or Black/Light Green wire (fuse supply circuit) as necessary. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
  3. Check For Stuck Speed Control Switch  - Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C116 terminals No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire) and No. 10 (Black wire). See Figure . DO NOT press any speed control actuator switches. If battery voltage is present, replace speed control switch assembly. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  4. Check ON Switch Operation  - With speed control ON switch pressed, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C116 terminals No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire) and No. 10 (Black wire) while rotating steering wheel. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, go to step 8).
  5. Check For Voltage To Air Bag Sliding Contact  - Disconnect air bag sliding contact connector C215 (located at base of steering column). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and air bag sliding contact connector C215 yellow/Light Green wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair fuse, Yellow/Light Blue wire, horn relay or Yellow/Light Green wire as necessary. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
  6. Check Air Bag Sliding Contact  - Disconnect speed control switch connector C261 from steering wheel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance across each of air bag sliding contact windings between terminals of air bag sliding contact connector C215 and speed control switch connector C261. If each resistance reading is .25-.50 ohm, go to next step. If each resistance reading is not .25-.50 ohm, replace air bag sliding contact. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
  7. Check For Open Circuits  - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of Light Blue/Black wire and Tan/Orange wire between air bag sliding contact connector C215 and speed control servo/actuator connector C116. If each resistance reading is less than one ohm, replace speed control switch assembly. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation. If either resistance reading is one ohm or more, repair Light Blue/Black wire or Tan/Orange wire. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
  8. Check For Stuck Command Switches  - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C116 terminals No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire) and No. 6 (Tan/Orange wire) while rotating steering wheel. See Figure . DO NOT press any speed control actuator switches. If resistance is more than 3 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3 k/ohms or less, replace speed control switch assembly. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
  9. Check For Binding Speed Control Cable & Throttle Body Linkage  - Check for binding or sticking speed control servo/actuator cable, throttle linkage and/or throttle plate. Ensure throttle cable bracket and speed control servo/actuator bracket are not loose. Repair as necessary. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation. If all components are okay, go to next step.
  10. Check For Broken Or Binding Speed Control Cable  - Remove speed control servo/actuator cable from speed control servo/actuator. Check for broken or binding cable by pulling on cable ball slug to ensure throttle moves freely. If speed control servo/actuator cable is okay, replace speed control servo/actuator. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation. If speed control servo/actuator cable is not okay, replace speed control servo/actuator cable. Repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle to check operation.
