Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Throttle Position Sensor:

The Throttle Position (TP) sensor uses a potentiometer to detect throttle plate opening angle and supplies the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) an input signal indicating throttle position. The signal is used to regulate air fuel mixture, and to help determine air intake quantity if the mass air flow sensor fails.
