Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CMP sensor is a Hall Effect magnetic switch. The Hall Effect switch is activated by a single vane, which is driven by the camshaft. CMP sensor is mounted on back of cylinder head. CMP sensor provides cylinder identification information during engine start-up for PCM to initiate correct firing order.
