DTC Test No. 6 - Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop
NOTE:
For Engine Control Module (ECM) connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in the INTRODUCTION section. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - TURBO
article.
NOTE:
Possible causes for DTC are: defective front oxygen sensor, defective fuel injector, defective fuel pressure regulator, defective fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, exhaust leak, vacuum leaks or defective ECM.
- Check front oxygen sensor. Front oxygen sensor is mounted on outlet elbow on turbocharger, near exhaust pipe. See SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - TURBO article.
- If front oxygen sensor is okay, go to next step. If front oxygen sensor is defective, replace front oxygen sensor.
- Check for defective terminals or connections at connector on front oxygen sensor and 22-pin ECM connector B-56. The ECM is located below instrument panel, in front of center console.
- If terminals and connections are okay on front oxygen sensor and ECM, go to next step. If any terminals or connections are defective on front oxygen sensor or ECM, repair as necessary.
- Check wiring harness between ECM and front oxygen sensor. If wiring harness is okay, go to next step. If wiring harness is defective, repair wiring harness.
- Check fuel injectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS - TURBO
article.NOTE: Possible causes for DTC are: defective front oxygen sensor, defective fuel injector, defective fuel pressure regulator, defective fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, exhaust leak, vacuum leaks or defective ECM.
- Check front oxygen sensor. Front oxygen sensor is mounted on outlet elbow on turbocharger, near exhaust pipe. See SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - TURBO article. If fuel injectors are okay, go to next step. If any fuel injectors are defective, replace fuel injector.
- Check for defective terminals or connections on all connectors at fuel injectors and 26-pin ECM connector B-53. If terminals and connections are okay on all components, go to next step. If any terminals or connections are defective on any component, repair as necessary.
- Check wiring harness between ECM and each fuel injector. If wiring harness is not defective, go to next step. If wiring harness is defective on any component, repair wiring harness.
- Check fuel pressure. See BASIC TESTING - TURBO article. If fuel pressure is within specification, go to next step. If fuel pressure is not within specification, repair fuel system as necessary.
- Check for the following conditions.
- Defective Fuel Pump
- Exhaust Leaks
- Restricted Fuel Filter
- Restricted Fuel Lines
- Vacuum Leaks
If any of these conditions exist, repair condition as necessary. If none of these conditions exist, replace ECM.
