Idle Pressure Test (Laser & Talon)

  1. To check pump pressure under no-load conditions, install pressure gauge and hose assembly. Bleed air from system. Start and run engine at 1000 RPM. Turn steering wheel left and right several times to increase power steering fluid temperature.
  2. Allow fluid temperature to increase to 122-140°F (50-60°C). Fully open shut-off valve and check pump pressure. Refer to the POWER STEERING PUMP PRESSURE TEST SPECIFICATIONS  table. If pump pressure is not within specifications, probable cause is a malfunction in fluid line or steering gear box.
  3. Check these components and repair as necessary. Remove pressure gauge and hose assembly. Bleed system.
