Any PCI Bus Cluster Indicator Inoperative

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), select SYSTEM MONITORS, then J1850 MODULE SCAN. Does the DRBIII(R) display MIC PRESENT ON THE BUS? If yes, go to next step. If no, diagnose any COMMUNICATION DTCs and symptoms. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  and SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION  .
  2. Using the DRBIII(R), select BODY, MIC, then MODULE DISPLAY. Does the DRBIII(R) display NO RESPONSE FROM MIC? If yes, go to BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMMUNICATION. If no, go to next step.
  3. Using the DRBIII(R), select BODY, MIC, SYSTEM TESTS, then PCM MONITOR. Does the DRBIII(R) display PCM INACTIVE ON THE BUS? If yes, go to NO RESPONSE FROM PCM (PCI BUS)  under COMMUNICATION. If no, go to next step.
  4. NOTE: Diagnose and repair any PCM DTCs before proceeding with this step. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DURANGO - JTEC or SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DURANGO - NGC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  5. Depress and hold Odometer trip/reset button while cycling ignition off, then on. To begin Instrument Cluster Self-Test, release Odometer trip/reset button after Odometer displays CHEC. Does the indicator illuminate? If yes, Instrument Cluster is operating properly. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace Instrument Cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
