Foglights Will Not Turn On
- Locate foglight relay, underhood in power distribution center. Power distribution center is located in left side of engine compartment, near battery. See Figure . Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command foglight relay on, then off. If foglight relay clicks during actuation, go to next step. If foglight relay does not click during actuation, go to step 5 .
- Using scan tool, command foglight relay on. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe Light Blue wire terminals at each foglight. If test illuminates at each foglight, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at each foglight, repair open in Light Blue wire between foglight relay cavity No. 87 and appropriate foglight(s). See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS article.
- Using test light connected to battery voltage, backprobe Black wire terminals at each foglight. If test light illuminates at each foglight, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at each foglight, repair open in Black wire between ground and appropriate foglight(s). See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Remove and inspect foglight bulbs. Replace foglight bulbs as necessary. If foglight bulbs are okay, turn headlight switch to ON position. Turn foglight switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select HEADLIGHT SWITCH VOLTAGE. If scan tool displays approximately 3 volts, replace foglight relay. If scan tool does not display approximately 3 volts, replace headlight switch. See HEADLIGHT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Remove foglight relay from power distribution center. Using test light connected to ground, probe foglight relay cavities No. 30 and 86 (Gray/Red wires). If test light illuminates at both cavities, go to step 7 . If test light does not illuminate at both cavities, check fuse "H", located in power distribution center. If fuse "H" is blown, go to next step. If fuse "H" is okay, repair open in appropriate Gray/Red wire between fuse "H" and foglight relay. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Check for short to ground in Gray/Red wires between fuse "H" and foglight relay. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Check for short to ground in Light Blue wires between foglight relay and foglights and/or headlight switch connector terminal No. 7. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS article. Repair as necessary.
- Connect test light between foglight relay cavities No. 85 (white/Violet wire) and No. 86 (Gray/Red wire). Using scan tool, command foglight relay on. If test light illuminates when commanding relay on, replace foglight relay. If test light does not illuminate when commanding relay on, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
