EGR System Check
- Disconnect Black vacuum hose from EGR valve. Connect hand vacuum pump to hose. Start engine and allow idle to stabilize. While engine is cold, quickly rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM. Vacuum should not be measured. Allow engine to reach operating temperature. Quickly rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM. If engine is hot and vacuum does not increase to more than 3.9 in. Hg (13 kPa), go to EGR VACUUM CONTROL VALVE
. After repairs, go to next step. If vacuum increases to more than 3.9 in. Hg (13 kPa), go to next step.
- Turn engine off. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose to EGR valve. Connect a hand vacuum pump to EGR valve. Start engine and allow idle to stabilize. Apply at least 8.7 in. Hg (20 kPa) of vacuum to EGR valve. Engine idle speed should become unstable or stall. If engine speed does not drop, check for plugged EGR passage. Go to EGR VALVE
. After repair, recheck system.
