DTC Test No. 70: Target Idle Not Reached

NOTE: Circuit is monitored when vehicle is idling with brake applied. DTC is set when idle speed is different from target idle by 200 RPM for 12 seconds. Possible causes for DTC to set are: Idle Air Control (IAC) motor defective or IAC motor circuits failed.
  1. Start engine and let idle. Using scan tool, read Idle Air Control (IAC) motor position (sensor read test No. 12. Turn A/C on. Scan tool should indicate an increase in step value. If value does not increase, go to next step. If value increases, check throttle body minimum airflow. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - CARS - AVENGER & SEBRING COUPE article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAC motor harness connector. Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 4 at IAC motor (component side). Measure resistance between terminals No. 2 and 3 at IAC motor (component side). Both resistances should be 38-52 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If either resistance is not as specified, replace IAC motor. If both resistances are as specified, check IAC motor system. See DTC TEST NO. 13: IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUITS .
