Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal
- Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees clockwise. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ignition key from lock cylinder.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
. Ensure negative battery cable is disconnected from stud on shock tower and isolated from all other components. Wait 2 minutes for reserve capacitor to discharge. Remove steering wheel and air bag module. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG MODULE
. If equipped with remote radio switches, speed control switches can remain attached to wire connectors.
- Remove tilt wheel lever. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds. Disconnect clockspring electrical connectors. See Figure
. Remove 2 clockspring mounting screws and pull clockspring from steering shaft.
