DTC P0850: Park/Neutral Switch Performance: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition on, engine not running. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data. Is the Good Trip counter displayed and equal to zero? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  3.
  2. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, check for Transmission DTCs. Are there any Transmission DTCs present? If yes, perform appropriate diagnostic test. See appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If no, check the PCM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary. If connectors are okay, replace PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
  3. At this time, the conditions required to set the DTC are not present. Use the Freeze Frame Data to help you duplicate the conditions that set the DTC. Pay particular attention to the DTC set conditions, such as, VSS, MAP, ECT, and Load. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply. Were any problems found? If yes, repair as necessary. If no, test is complete.
