Test 15A: Pump Motor Circuit Not Working Properly

NOTE: Perform TEST 1A: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)  before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. DTC may be caused by loose connections, open pump/motor or pump/motor relay wiring circuit, open CAB pump/motor monitor circuit, defective pump/motor, defective pump/motor relay or defective CAB. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off, then on. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays VALVE POWER FEED CIRCUIT, perform TEST 20A: VALVE POWER FEED CIRCUIT  . If scan tool does not display VALVE POWER FEED CIRCUIT, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, actuate pump/motor and listen for operating sound at pump/motor. If pump/motor operates, perform TEST 15B: PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT NOT WORKING PROPERLY  . If pump/motor does not operate, stop pump/motor actuation. Go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe pump/motor relay connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, perform TEST 15C: PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT NOT WORKING PROPERLY  .
    CAUTION: Ensure correct Brown/White wire is checked in following step as two Brown/White wires are used at pump/motor relay connector. Check voltage on pump/motor relay connector terminal "C".
  5. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe pump/motor relay connector at terminal "C" (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Brown/White wire between pump/motor relay and ABS main relay. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  6. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe pump/motor relay connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  7. Connect jumper wire between ground and pump/motor relay connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). Pump/motor relay should energize and pump/motor should operate. If pump/motor operates, disconnect jumper wire and perform TEST 15D: PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT NOT WORKING PROPERLY  . If pump/motor does not operate, go to next step.
    CAUTION: Ensure correct Brown/White wire is checked in following step as two Brown/White wires are used at pump/motor relay connector. Check voltage on ABS main relay connector terminal "B". See Figure .
  8. Ensure jumper wire at terminal "A" is still installed. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe pump/motor relay connector terminal "B" (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  9. Disconnect pump/motor connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on pump/motor connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Brown/White wire between pump/motor relay and pump/motor. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  10. Reconnect pump/motor connector. Ensure jumper wire at terminal "A" is still installed. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe pump/motor connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If voltage is more than one volt, repair open Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If voltage is one volt or less, replace pump/motor. Perform TEST VER-1A.
