Test TC-1A, Checking System For DTCS

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below.
  1. Attempt to start engine. If necessary, crank engine for up to 10 seconds. Connect scan tool to data link connector. Record scan tool DTCs. If scan tool screen shows no response, go to CORRECTING NO RESPONSE CONDITION test in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below.
  2. If DTCs are displayed, see SCAN TOOL DTCS table for charging system DTCs, or see TEST TC-1A, CHECKING SYSTEM FOR DTCS in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below for all other DTCs. If DTCs are not displayed, go to TEST CH-1A, CHECKING CHARGING SYSTEM - NO DTCS  .

Scan Tool Display Go To Test:
ALTERNATOR FIELD NOT SWITCHING PROPERLY TEST TC-2A 
BATTERY TEMP. SENSOR VOLTS OUT OF LIMIT TEST TC-3A 
CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE LOW TEST TC-4A 
CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE HIGH TEST TC-5A
