Repairing Blank Scan Tool Screen

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see wiring diagram.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from CCD data link connector. Inspect, clean and repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage on Red wire at CCD data link connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Red wire as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off and close all doors. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between chassis ground and Black/Light Green wire at CCD data link connector. If resistance is more than 20 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 20 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Try a different scan tool cable. If scan tool screen is no longer blank, replace defective scan tool cable. Perform TEST VER-1A. If scan tool screen is still blank, go to next step.
  4. Try a different scan tool cartridge (if equipped). If scan tool screen is no longer blank, replace defective scan tool cartridge. Perform TEST VER-1A. If scan tool screen is still blank, replace defective scan tool. Perform TEST VER-1A.
