Test 40A - Right Front Door Ajar Circuit
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Ensure all doors are closed. If vehicle does not have an Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), go to TEST 76A . If vehicle has an EVIC, turn ignition on (engine off). Using DRB-II, read right front door ajar switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, open right front door.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to TEST 40B. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect right front door ajar switch connector. Switch is located at lower right "B" pillar. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Connect jumper wire between Tan/Red wire of right front door ajar switch connector and ground.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace right front door ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary.
- Reconnect both BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Tan/Red wire) of BCM Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Tan/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT CLOSED in step 1), disconnect right front door ajar switch connector. Switch is located at lower right "B" pillar. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace right front door ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off. Disconnect vehicle theft alarm module (if equipped). See Figure . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect both BCM connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/Red wire) of BCM Red connector.
- If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDUREVER-1.
