Test 21B - Brake Pressure Switch Without Anti-Lock Brakes
- If vehicle is equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), see appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in the BRAKES Section. If vehicle is not equipped with ABS, check brake fluid in reservoir.
- If brake fluid level is not within specifications, check for leaks and repair as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If brake fluid level is within specifications, depress brake pedal. If there is a problem with service brakes, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES Section. If there is not a problem with service brakes, observe BRAKE warning light on Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). If BRAKE warning light is on, go to step 6).
- If BRAKE warning light is not on, disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. Connect jumper wire between Gray/Black wire of brake pressure warning switch connector and ground. If BRAKE warning light is on, replace brake pressure warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If BRAKE warning light is not on, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect EIC 13-pin connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Gray/Black wire between brake pressure warning switch connector and EIC 13-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EIC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- Disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. If BRAKE warning light goes out, replace brake pressure warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If BRAKE warning light did not go out, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect EIC 13-pin connector. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of Gray/Black wire in EIC connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace EIC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect ignition switch connector. Check resistance of Gray/Black wire in EIC connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace ignition switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDUREVER-1.
