July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Test 21B - Brake Pressure Switch Without Anti-Lock Brakes

  1. If vehicle is equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), see appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in the BRAKES Section. If vehicle is not equipped with ABS, check brake fluid in reservoir.
  2. If brake fluid level is not within specifications, check for leaks and repair as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If brake fluid level is within specifications, depress brake pedal. If there is a problem with service brakes, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES Section. If there is not a problem with service brakes, observe BRAKE warning light on Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). If BRAKE warning light is on, go to step 6).
  4. If BRAKE warning light is not on, disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. Connect jumper wire between Gray/Black wire of brake pressure warning switch connector and ground. If BRAKE warning light is on, replace brake pressure warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If BRAKE warning light is not on, turn ignition off.
  5. Disconnect EIC 13-pin connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Gray/Black wire between brake pressure warning switch connector and EIC 13-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EIC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. Disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. If BRAKE warning light goes out, replace brake pressure warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If BRAKE warning light did not go out, turn ignition off.
  7. Disconnect EIC 13-pin connector. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of Gray/Black wire in EIC connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace EIC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect ignition switch connector. Check resistance of Gray/Black wire in EIC connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace ignition switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDUREVER-1.
