Purge Solenoid

The purge solenoid operates in a manner similar to the EGR solenoid. When engine temperature is below 145°F (61°C), the logic module completes the ground circuit for the purge solenoid. This closes the solenoid valve, preventing vacuum from reaching the charcoal canister valve. When this temperature is reached, the logic module breaks the ground circuit allowing vacuum to reach the canister purge valve so that fuel vapors may be purged from the canister.
