REDUCED ENGINE POWER MESSAGE ON DIC AND NO DTCS SET

AFFECTED MODEL(S):

2012-2013 Chevrolet Cruze; Equipped with 1.4L Turbo Engine (RPO LUJ or LUV)

SERVICE INFORMATION

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

CONDITION/CONCERN

A technician may encounter a customer concern of a reduced engine power message on the DIC with no noticeable reduction in power and no DTCs set.

RECOMMENDATION/INSTRUCTIONS

Using GDS2 verify there are no DTCs set that would indicate a fault for the reduced engine power message.

The reduced engine power message can be displayed on the DIC if the vehicle is run out of fuel.

There will be little to no noticeable reduction in power

This message will remain on until the battery has been disconnected for a period of five minutes.

If no related DTCs are set, using GDS2, record the Reduced Engine Power History Parameter by navigating to "Module Diagnostics" "Data Display" "TAC Data" "Reduced Engine Power History".

If the "Reduced Engine Power History Parameter displays 'Engine Powered Hybrid/EV Battery Charging Unavailable' the fault is likely caused by running the vehicle out of fuel.

To correct this condition, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect.

Reset the Reduced Engine Power History status to none by performing the GDS2 clear codes function.

Test drive the vehicle and verify the Reduced Engine Power message does not reset.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
