Test B: Shift Lever Does Not Move With Brake Pedal Depressed
NOTE:
For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
and WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Did you perform symptom diagnosis? If so, go to next step. If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Press and hold brake pedal. Attempt to move gearshift lever from "P" position. If gearshift lever moves from "P" position, check for intermittent condition. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If gearshift does not move from "P" position, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect stoplamp switch connector. Turn ignition on, engine off. Press and hold brake pedal. Attempt to move gearshift lever from "P" position. If gearshift lever moves from "P" position go to step 5 . If gearshift does not move from "P" position, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect BTSI solenoid. Turn ignition on, engine off. Press and hold brake pedal. Attempt to move gearshift lever from "P" position. If gearshift lever moves from "P" position, go to step 7 . If gearshift lever does not move from "P" position, go to step 6 .
- Check for proper stoplamp switch adjustment. See STOPLAMP SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS. Check for poor connections at stoplamp switch. Repair as necessary, then go to step 10 . If no problem was found, go to step 8 .
- Check for poor connections at BTSI solenoid. Repair as necessary, then go to step 10 . If no problem was found, go to step 9 .
- Repair short to battery voltage in BTSI solenoid signal circuit. After repairs, go to step 10 .
- Replace stoplamp switch. See STOPLAMP SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repair as necessary, then go to step 10 .
- Replace BTSI solenoid. See BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, testing is complete.
