Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Powertrain Diagnostic System Check? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Select the MAF sensor parameter on the scan tool. Is the MAF sensor value more than or equal to 185.0 g/s? If yes, go to step  7 . If no, go to next step.
  3. Observe the MAF sensor parameter on the scan tool. Is the MAF sensor less than or equal to 0.39 g/s? If yes, go to step  5 . If no, go to next step.
  4. Clear the DTC Information with the scan tool. Operate the vehicle within the Freeze Frame conditions as specified. Does a DTC P0100 set? If yes, go to step  2 . If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Remove the MAF sensor from the air cleaner housing. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector. Turn ON ignition, with engine OFF. Probe the test terminal of the ignition positive voltage circuit with a test light connected to ground. Is the test light illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  10 .
  6. Turn ON ignition, with engine OFF. Connect a Digital Multimeter (DMM) to the test terminal of the MAF signal high circuit and ground. Is the MAF signal high circuit voltage within 0.5-3.0 volts? If yes, go to step  11 . If no, go to step  12 .
  7. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector. Turn ON ignition, with engine OFF. Connect a test light from B+ to the MAF signal low circuit. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  9 .
  8. Measure the voltage of the MAF signal high circuit on the harness side with a DMM connected to ground. Is the MAF signal high circuit voltage more than 0.5 volt? If yes, go to step  15 . If no, go to step  16 .
  9. Inspect for an open in the MAF sensor signal low circuit. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  18 . If no, go to step  17 .
  10. Repair the open in the MAF sensor ignition positive voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step  18 .
  11. Inspect for an open in the MAF sensor signal high circuit. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  18 . If no, go to step  17 .
  12. Inspect the MAF signal high circuit for a short to ground. Is the MAF signal high circuit shorted to ground? If yes, go to step  14 . If no, go to next step.
  13. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the connector C1 of the PCM. Turn ON ignition, with engine OFF. Probe the MAF signal high circuit on the harness side with a Digital Multimeter (DMM) connected to ground. Is the voltage more than 10 volts, go to step  17 . If no, go to step  16 .
  14. Inspect the MAF signal high circuit for a short to ground between the MAF sensor and the PCM. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  18 . If no, go to step  17 .
  15. Inspect the MAF signal high circuit for a short to voltage. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  18 . If no, go to step  17 .
  16. Replace the MAF sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step  18 .
  17. Replace the PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  18. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC  . Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2 .
  19. With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, system is okay.
