Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTC information. Operate vehicle within FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data conditions. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S-1 harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using test light connected to ground, probe HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect HO2S-1 harness connector. Disconnect PCM harness connector C2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM, check voltage at PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 7 (Pink/Black wire). See Figure. If voltage reading is 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not 10 volts, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S-1 harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between HO2S-1 harness connector terminals No. 3 (Pink/Black wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). If resistance is 11.7-15.6 ohms at 68°F (20°C), go to step 12. If resistance is not as specified, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition off. Check IG-COIL fuse (15-amp) located in passenger compartment fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step 8. If fuse is okay, go to step 9.
- Turn ignition off. Check for open or short to ground in Pink/Black wire between HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 3 and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 7. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13. If circuit is okay, go to step 10.
- Replace faulty IG-COIL fuse. Check for short to ground in Black/White wire between fuse block and HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 4. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13. If circuit is okay, go to step 11.
- Repair open in Black/White wire between fuse block and HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 4. After repairs, go to step 13.
- Check for poor connection at HO2S-1 harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace HO2S-1. After replacing sensor, go to step 13.
- Turn ignition off. Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTC information. Operate vehicle within FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data conditions that set DTC. Check for DTCs. If no DTCs are stored, repair is complete. If any DTCs are stored, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
