Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Ensure scan tool is operating properly. If scan tool is not operating properly, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  .
  2. Inspect for proper connection and terminal tension of scan tool to DLC terminal No. 9. See Figure . If there is no fault with DLC, go to next step. If there is any fault with DLC, repair and perform SIR system diagnostic check. See SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
  3. Carefully disconnect inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). Check for poor connection and terminal tension at SDM terminal No. 5. If there is no fault with SDM connector, go to next step. If there is any fault with SDM connector, repair and perform SIR system diagnostic check. See SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
  4. Test for an open, short to ground or short to voltage in 800 circuit (Tan wire) between DLC and SDM. See Figure . If there is no fault with 800 circuit, go to next step. If there is any fault with 800 circuit, repair and perform SIR system diagnostic check. See SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF. Replace Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
