Brushes & Springs

  1. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between positive and negative brush holders. Continuity should not exist. If continuity exists, replace shorted brush holder assembly.
  2. Measure brush length. Brush length should be .45-.67" (11.5-17.0 mm). Check brush springs for corrosion or damage. Ensure spring tension is within specification. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  table. Ensure brushes move freely in holders.
