July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Rack Bearing Preload

  1. With steering gear installed, raise and support vehicle. Position wheels in straight-ahead position. Loosen adjuster plug lock nut. See Figure. Rotate adjuster plug clockwise until it bottoms in the housing.
  2. Back off adjuster plug 50-70 degrees (approximately one flat). Tighten adjuster plug lock nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  at end of article. DO NOT  allow adjusting plug to rotate while tightening lock nut.
CAUTION: Ensure steering wheel returns to center position after adjusting rack bearing preload.
