Anti-Lock Brake System Diagnostic System Check
- Reconnect all previously disconnected components. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Install scan tool. If scan tool communicates with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), go to step 3 . If scan tool does not communicate with EBCM, go to next step.
- If scan tool communicates with other modules, check anti-lock brake system. See ANTI-LOCK/TCS - CATERA article in BRAKES. If scan tool does not communicate with other modules, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH KEYWORD DATA LINE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Disconnect scan tool. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. Carefully road test vehicle for several minutes over different road surfaces and with several turns greater than 12 MPH. Install scan tool. Using scan tool, read Anti-Lock Brake System/Traction Control System (ABS/TCS) DTCs. If DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate test procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step.
- Remove scan tool from DLC. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. If ABS indicator turns on and then off after about 7 seconds, go to next step. If ABS indicator does not turn on and then off after about 7 seconds, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. If Traction Control (TC) indicator turns on and then turn off after about 7 seconds, go to step 8 . If TC indicator does not turn on and then off after several seconds, go to step 7 .
- If ABS indicator is always on or does not come on, repair indicator as necessary. See ANTI-LOCK/TCS - CATERA article in BRAKES.
- If TC indicator stays on or does not come on, repair indicator as necessary. See ANTI-LOCK/TCS - CATERA article in BRAKES.
- If there are any history DTCs present, go to next step. If there are no history DTCs present, system is okay at this time.
- Refer to DTC DESCRIPTION and DIAGNOSTIC AIDS. Remove scan tool. Start engine and test drive vehicle for several minutes at speeds greater than 15 MPH. Leave vehicle running and connect scan tool to DLC. Using scan tool check for ABS/TCS DTCs. If any history DTC is set as a current DTC during test drive, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs set as current, system is okay at this time.
