Test Description
- BCM input BI51 displays alternator signal voltage as HI or LO, depending on voltage at BCM. Normally, with key on and engine off, circuit No. 225 will be pulled low by generator and BI51 will read LO. Refer to code chart to complete test step 1).
- This step determines if a LO reading (engine running) is due to circuit No. 225 or alternator. If reading changes from LO to HI when alternator is disconnected, circuit No. 225 and BCM are okay. Repair alternator.
- This step determines if fault is due to BCM or circuit No. 225.
- BCM data value BD51 displays amount of alternator field activity. Under normal conditions, a reading less than 7% indicates a fault in field circuit or BCM.
- Removing alternator connector determines if fault is due to alternator or an open in circuit No. 225, including BCM and interface connector.
