July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with The Body Control Module (BCM), Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication with all modules is established, go to next step. If communication with all modules is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair shift lock control system as necessary. See appropriate article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1000, B1652, B1656, B1657 or B1658, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1000, B1652, B1656, B1657 or B1658, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  6. If scan tool does not display DTC B0802 or B0803, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B0802 or B0803, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  7. If scan tool does not display DTC B1982 or B1983, check is complete. If scan tool displays DTC B1982 or B1983, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
