Low Oil Level Indicator Inoperative, Oil Level Low

  1. Turn ignition on. Wait 30 seconds and, using Tech 1 scan tester, check for Powertrain Control Module Code 96. If Code 96 is set, see the appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
  2. If code is not set, disconnect engine oil level sensor connector. Check for battery voltage at engine oil level sensor connector terminal "B" (Brown wire). If battery voltage is present, replace sensor. If battery voltage is not present, check for short to ground in sensor Brown wire. If circuit is okay, replace PCM.
