Pre-Diagnostic Inspection

When checking potential ABS system faults, check the following before using DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.

  1. Check Overvoltage Protection (OVP) relay fuses (No. 3 and No. 17 in main fuse block). Check STOP/HAZ fuse (No. 19 in main fuse block).
  2. Check fusible link to hydraulic modulator.
  3. Ensure OVP relay connector and Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) connectors are fully seated and tight.
  4. Ensure parking brake switch is functioning properly.
  5. Check ground system for clean tight connections. Grounds for ABS system are located as follows:
    • Behind left headlight support, in front of fuel vapor canister
    • Near center of left "D" pillar (left rear quarter panel)
    • Front of engine at thermostat housing
    • Headlight wiring harness, near left headlight
  6. Always perform ABS SYSTEM FUNCTION CHECK before using code charts under DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS. See Figure.
