The Diesel Electronic Control (DEC) system is used on 1984 California V6-262 engines and 1985 front wheel drive Buick Electra, Park Avenue and Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight equipped with V6-262 diesel engines. This system uses an Electronic Control Module (ECM) to provide precise control of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) engagement. Other system components include EGR and Exhaust Pressure Regulator (EPR) valves, EGR and EPR vacuum control solenoids, TCC solenoid, engine and vehicle speed sensors, EGR vacuum (MAP) sensor, Metering Valve Sensor (MVS), 4th gear switch on models equipped with 4 speed automatic transmission, and a ``Check Engine'' lamp to indicate system malfunctions.
