Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

The Shift Lever Position Signal is connected to pin 42 of the Motronic control module, the signal is directional IN only (PIN 42 - INPUT ONLY).

The shift lever position signal comes from the transmission's multi-function switch. Idle speed is reduced after selection of a driving range in order to reduce the vehicle's tendency to creep.
