Battery Connection Procedure

Disconnect 

1. Open the decklid and support it so it will not close.
2. The key must be in the OFF position and the vehicle must remain powered down for at least 1 minute.

3. Remove the battery cover (1b) by releasing retainers (1a).

   NOTE:

   IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) equipped vehicle shown

4. Press the release button (1a) and disconnect the negative battery cable (1b) from the post (1c). If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector.

Connect 

1. In the event that the liftgate is closed while the battery is disconnected, fold the rear seat back down or remove the fixed seat back. Refer to: SEAT BACK, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

2. Remove the cap (2) near the decklid latch. There is a cable (1) that is attached to the cap that will pull out of the opening. Pull the cable to release the decklid latch.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.

4. Connect the negative battery cable (1b) onto the post (1c). If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.

5. Position the battery cover (1b) and engage the retainers (1a).
6. Initializing the steering is required. This will be indicated by a warning light on the IPC illuminating. Start the engine, turn the steering wheel from one lock to the other and turn it back into the center position.
