Battery Connection Procedure
Disconnect
NOTE:
Open the decklid and support the decklid in the full open position. If the decklid closes while the battery is disconnected, the rear seat may need to be removed.
- Open the decklid and support it so it will not close.
- The key must be in the OFF position and the vehicle must remain powered down for at least 1 minute.
- Remove the battery cover (1b) by releasing retainers (1a).NOTE:
IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) equipped vehicle shown
- Press the release button (1a) and disconnect the negative battery cable (1b) from the post (1c). If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector.
Connect
NOTE:
Make sure that the negative battery terminal is not damaged before installation.
- In the event that the liftgate is closed while the battery is disconnected, fold the rear seat back down or remove the fixed seat back. Refer to: SEAT BACK, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the cap (2) near the decklid latch. There is a cable (1) that is attached to the cap that will pull out of the opening. Pull the cable to release the decklid latch.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Connect the negative battery cable (1b) onto the post (1c). If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
- Position the battery cover (1b) and engage the retainers (1a).
- Initializing the steering is required. This will be indicated by a warning light on the IPC illuminating. Start the engine, turn the steering wheel from one lock to the other and turn it back into the center position.
