Front Suspension Lower Control Arm

NOTE:

Removal process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. Undo the fixing nut (1a) and place the stabilizer bar joint (1b) to one side.

  4. Undo the fixing bolt (1a), lower control arm side, and place the shock absorber (1b) to one side.

  5. Undo the nut (1) securing the lower control arm head to the steering knuckle.

  6. Disconnect the head of the lower control arm(1a) from the steering knuckle, using a suitable extractor (1b).

  7. Undo the fixing nuts (1a), body side, and remove the lower control arm(1b).

Installation 

NOTE:

Installation process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

NOTE:

The refitting procedure must be carried out in "Standard A" conditions: vehicle empty including spare wheel, tools, accessories and consumables (full tank of fuel).

  1. Even if the bushings (1a) do not seem to have come out of the seat, check using the special fitting tool (1b).
    NOTE:

    If one or more bushings come completely out of the seat, replace the steering knuckle.

  2. Fit the lower control arm (1a) in its housing and tighten the fixing nuts (1b), body side.

    Lower wishbone (to body) Nut M10x1.5 56 + 45°
  3. Thoroughly clean the contact area between the head of the lower control arm and the stub axle using heptane.
  4. Connect the head of the lower front suspension control arm to the stub axle, bring it to end of travel and tighten using a temporary nut.
    NOTE:

    The temporary nut can be used a maximum of four times.

    NOTE:

    IN ORDER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE WISHBONE HEAD THREADED PIN, A MAXIMUM OF TWO REGULATIONS WITH THE TORQUE WRENCH ON THE RELEVANT FIXING NUT IS ALLOWED

  5. Connect the head (1a) of the control arm to the stub axle and tighten the NEW fixing nut (1b).
    NOTE:

    IN ORDER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CONTROL ARM HEAD THREADED PIN, A MAXIMUM OF TWO REGULATIONS WITH THE TORQUE WRENCH ON THE NEW FIXING NUT IS ALLOWED.

  6. Connect the stabilizer bar joint head (1a) and tighten the fixing nut (1b).

  7. Install tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Perform Front End Alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
