October 30: LEMON manuals on a temporary server, it is slow and having issues, download the manuals you need! Later in November we will switch back to the fast server.
Code 4, 8, Or 9 - TDC/CKP/CYL Sensor
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP (7.5-amp) fuse from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Retrieve codes. If Code 4, 8, or 9 does not appear, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections at ECM and distributor. Test-drive vehicle and retest.
- If MIL is on and indicates Code 4, 8, or 9, turn ignition off. Unplug 8-pin connector from TDC/CKP/CYL sensor connector at distributor. Measure resistance between terminals of each sensor. See Fig 1
. See INPUT SIGNAL & RESISTANCE TEST TERMINALS
. If resistance is 350-700 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 350-700 ohms, replace distributor subassembly.

- Test each terminal for continuity to body ground. If continuity exists, replace distributor subassembly. If continuity does not exist, reconnect wiring to distributor. Leaving ECM disconnected, connect ECM Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A
) to ECM harness. Measure resistance between ECM test harness terminals. See INPUT SIGNAL & RESISTANCE TEST TERMINALS
.
- If resistance is not 350-700 ohms, repair open in faulty circuit. If resistance is 350-700 ohms, test for continuity to body ground on test terminals B11, B13, and B15. If continuity exists on any terminal, repair short circuit. If continuity does not exist, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
