Shift Control Solenoid Valves

  1. Shift control solenoid valves are located on lower valve body assembly. See Figure . Disconnect transaxle sub-harness connector.
  2. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 3 or terminal No. 4 and body ground. See Fig 1 .
  3. Resistance should be 12-24 ohms. If resistance is not within specification, disconnect shift control solenoid valve connector from transaxle sub-harness at the transaxle. Note terminal identification on shift control solenoid valve connector.
  4. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal "A" and body ground. Check resistance between terminal "B" and body ground. See Figure .
  5. Resistance should be 12-24 ohms. If resistance is okay, replace transaxle sub-harness. Replace shift control solenoid valve assembly if resistance of either solenoid valve is not within specification.
  6. Check shift control solenoid valve operation. Apply battery voltage to terminal "A" and then terminal "B" of shift control solenoid valve connector. Ensure solenoid valve body is grounded.
  7. Clicking sound should be heard, indicating solenoid valve operation. Replace shift control solenoid valve assembly if either solenoid valve fails to operate.
