A/C Control System
With A/C and blower motor switches on, A/C control unit sends a signal through dual (triple) pressure switch to radiator fan control unit. See Figure . If the evaporator sensor temperature is above 39°F (4°C), radiator fan control unit activates cooling fans and sends a signal to engine control unit.
Engine control unit increases engine idle speed and turns on A/C compressor. When evaporator sensor temperature drops below 37°F (3°C), sensor signals engine control unit to turn off cooling fans and compressor. If refrigerant pressure becomes too high (due to blockage) or too low (due to leakage), dual (triple) pressure switch signals cooling fan control unit, which prevents A/C system operation.
When refrigerant pressure is too high (due to heavy use in high temperatures), dual (triple) pressure switch is activated to increase cooling fan speed. A/C system is shut off if coolant temperature reaches 228°F (109°C).
